Honoring Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day Weekend, we remember and honor our military heroes who have served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms. May we never forget.

Town Center offices including the Planning and Building Counter, Contract Post Office, and Library are closed Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day. Additionally, the Library is closed on Sunday, May 28. Normal business hours resume on Tuesday, May 30.

First responders, fire and police are on duty; call 9-1-1 for emergencies and the Atherton Police Department's non-emergency line at (650) 688-6500 for non-emergencies.

Queen Polly of the Circus

The Town of Atherton turns 100 on September 12, 2023. You'll want to save the date for two celebrations:

  • Tuesday, September 12, 2023: Special City Council Meeting with a screening of a centennial video and cake.
  • Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM: Centennial Celebration at Town Center with exhibits, food, family activities, and tree giveaway

Leading up to those celebrations, each week in the Atherton Online, we are featuring icons, places, and historical moments that have made this Town the vibrant community that it is today.

This week, we are telling the story behind Queen Polly of the Circus - an annual competition in Town inspired by a popular book. View it here or click the image below.

Kick-Off Sounds of Summer on June 1

Together with the Atherton Library, we're bringing live music, family activities, and food trucks! Join us for the first three Thursdays of June starting at 5:00 PM. Bring a chair and meet us on the Atherton Library's front deck. Each week, there will be a featured food truck.

Starting June 1, we are kicking off the series with Five Ten, a San Francisco-based Jazz group that uses different styles from all over the world in their performances. This renowned world jazz group is made up of five longtime friends and international players who include Master Keyboardist Composer Steve Carter, Bass Guitarist/Composer Dennis Smith, Multi-Percussionist/Composer Marghinho Brasil, Grammy-nominated Jeff Narell on Steel Pans, Billy “Shoes” Johnson on drums. The process is simple. Start by contacting HIP Housing to fill out their inquiry form. They'll schedule an interview with you and start getting to work to find you a renter who matches your preferences. Serve on a Town Committee or Commission

Atherton Community Members! Your participation is critical to the City Council’s and Town staff’s success in serving the community. One great way to participate is by joining one of the citizen advisory bodies established by our City Council. Browse all Committees and the Planning Commission on our website here. With many terms coming to an end in June, there are either current or upcoming vacancies in each of our advisory bodies.

Make your service extra special by volunteering the year of our centennial! Volunteering to serve on one of the Town’s committees is a great opportunity to learn about local government, help influence decisions, and provide recommendations to City leaders. Apply today!
