Introducing Atherton's 2024 Mayor and

Vice Mayor

Each December, the City Council reorganizes to select the Mayor and Vice Mayor for the coming year.  The Mayor and Vice Mayor's seats were declared open, and by nomination, the Council welcomed Vice Mayor Diana Hawkins Manuelian to move into the Mayoral role for 2024 and Councilmember Lewis to move into the Vice Mayor role. Pictured here are the Mayor and Vice Mayor being sworn into their new roles with Oaths of Office.

Recycling Your Holiday Tree

Save this information for when it's time to say goodbye to your Christmas or holiday tree:

  • Place your tree curbside, next to your green cart, by 6 a.m. on your collection day. If you have on-property service, you still need to bring your tree to the curb.
  • Cut your tree into 6ft. pieces or smaller. If your tree is larger, you need to trim it down or it won’t be picked up.
  • Remove all stands, lights, ornaments, or tinsel from your tree. These items can damage the recycling equipment or contaminate the compost.
  • Do not cover or bag your tree.
  • Flocked trees (sprayed with artificial snow) are not accepted for recycling. You need to place them in your gray cart as trash.

Thank you for doing your part to reduce waste this season!

Canine Kenai Joins Police for Briefing this Week

Studies show that the use of therapy dogs results in a reduction of stress and anxiety. Dogs lower our blood pressure, improve overall mood and department morale as well as increase our productivity. That's why the Police Department was excited to meet the non-profit First Responder Therapy Dogs team to learn more about how their pack can be used to help the community and bring comfort in challenging situations. Kenai, a 5-year-old golden retriever, is pictured with some of our Police Department during a briefing this week.

Learn more about how therapy dogs can help our first responders at their website here: www.firstrespondertherapydogs.org.

Therapy dogs are another tool in our toolbox to serve the community, and we hope to spread some joy with this feature of Kenai!
