The City Manager's Blog is an online educational tool to provide general information to the community in open communication style. Periodically, the City Manager will post articles of general interest covering topics such as the Town's budget, budget process, capital projects, upcoming meetings, community issues, public safety, and general Town operations.

Articles in the blog are not designed as press releases or Town publications, rather, they are written in more of a conversational style. The Blog does not have a comments feature but readers are free to respond to the Blog and its entries view email directly to the City Manager.

The City Council met for the Regular Meeting on Wednesday, May 15 at 6 pm. Following the Roll Call the Council began moving through the Agenda beginning with Presentations and Public Comments(~6:07 pm)  The Council received a presentation from Peninsula Clean Energy (~6:08 pm), Mid-Peninsula Open Space District (~6:26 pm) and presented a Proclamation for May 2024 as Mental Health Month (~6:40 pm). 

Following Public Comments, the Council moved on to Departmental Reports. 

ReportDepartmental Reports (~7:00 pm) are prepared monthly as part of the City Council's Regular Agenda. 

In addition to current reports from the City Manager, it typically includes departmental updates on the various happenings around Town such as reports from Administration, Community Services, Planning, Police, and Public Works.  

Consent_AgendaFollowing Departmental Reports, the Council moved to the Consent Agenda consisting of Items 1 through 5. Items on the Consent Agenda are considered routine in nature and are generally considered in one motion and adopted by a single vote of the Council. Included in this month's Consent Agenda were bills and claims, minutes, SB 1 Resolution and an award of contract for street work. Following an opportunity for comments and questions, the Council approved the items on the Consent Agenda.

Public Hearings are typically held for Ordinances, Budget Adoption, Fee Adoption, and Land Use approvals. 

There were no scheduled Public Hearings.

Next up was the Regular Agenda.

The first item on the Regular Agenda was Item No. 6, Consideration of an Appeal of costs for removal of a dead and dangerous tree at 175 Ravenswood. (~7:01 pm) Following a staff report, questions, and opportunity for public comment, the Council conducted a hearing on the issue. The Council heard from the appellant and then discussed issues related to process, timing, cost, and notice. Following discussion, the Council authorized a reduction in the cost for removal to the actual removal cost of $5,750 and assessed the cost to the appellant.  

The last item on the Regular Agenda was Item No. 7, Award of Contract for a Survey Consultant. (~8:01 pm) Following a staff report, questions and opportunity for public comment, the Council discussed issues related timing, stakeholder groups - to include the inclusion of youth groups, survey process, Town demographics, sample size, and distribution of the survey. Following discussion, the Council approved the contract at an amount not to exceed $19,000. 

The last items on the Agenda were Council Reports and final Comments. 

Having cleared the entire Agenda, at approximately 8:14 pm, that as they say - was a wrap! 


The next meeting of the City Council will be a Special Joint Meeting with the Finance Committee on June 5 at 4 pm for review of the final draft budget. Additional items tentatively on the Agenda include interviews with any applicants received for Town Committees, Discussion of Speak Time Limits for Agenda and Non-Agenda items, and Discussion of Consideration of Becoming a Charter City.
